W. Edward "Ed" Carter passed from this life at home on the evening of October 19, 2017 surrounded by family and friends. He was born in Shreveport, LA on January 22, 1935 to Max (A.V.) and Alice (Means) Carter.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents and grandson, Konner.
Blessed by his life are his wife Sylvia Sue, son Keith and wife Kim, granddaughters Kennedy and Karrington, and son Jarrett Means Carter. He also leaves a sister Jo and dear family friend, Amelia Lee, his brother Dan and wife Lois. Ed loved his nephews, Chris, Jon Edward, Rick and niece Megan Carter and their families; his in- laws, Patsy and Kenneth Furlow of Lumberton, TX and their family, and niece Laurie Hayden.
Ed was a Christian who loved God and studied the Bible setting an example for all who knew and loved him. He loved his family, his home on Caddo Lake, and all of his friends and many cousins. He was a giver who generously gave to his Church and Community. He lived an honorable life and was a good example to his many boys on the Hill who were guided by his wisdom and knowledge.
Ed was a member of the Blanchard Kiwanis Club and served as President and founding member of the first Blanchard Polk Salad Festival, which is a continuing annual event. He also served a year as Northwood High School PTA President and was the first Chairman of the Board for Caddo Parish Fire Department District 7 in Oil City.
As a young professional, Ed served with the FBI in Washington, DC. Later he became a successful and compassionate banker serving as VP of American Bank, President and CEO of Security National Bank; President of the First National Bank of Blanchard; VP of Pioneer Bank; VP of Minden Bank & Trust, and VP of Regions Bank and Trust until his retirement in 2000.
The family would like to thank the caregivers from Always Best Care, especially Brittney Johnson and Charnell Randall. We appreciate all the friends and family that have been so helpful to Ed and Sylvia.
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, October 28, 2017 at the Richland Hills Christian Fellowship Church 7851 LA Hwy 1, Shreveport, LA at 1:00pm. Immediately following is a time of fellowship and food provided by Ed's family at his home on Caddo Lake. Pastor Larry Bass and Brothers Mark Faust and Chester Coffman will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Richland Hills Christian Fellowship Church or St. Jude's Children's' Hospital in honor of Ed Carter.
