Wachel Rice

Funeral services for Wachel Rice, 80, will be held on Saturday, February 8, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 2500 Southside Dr., Shreveport, Louisiana. Burial will follow at Forest Park West Cemetery, 4000 Meriwether Rd. in Shreveport. A visitation will be held Friday, February 7, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Officiating the service will be Pastor Scott Ethridge.

Wachel was born on December 30, 1944, in Columbia, Louisiana to Perry Rice and Myra Henderson Rice and passed away on Saturday, February 1, 2025, in Shreveport.

Wachel is a resident of Caddo Parish. He spent his career as a welder in the trucking industry. He loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them.

Wachel is preceded in death by his parents, Perry and Myra Rice; spouse, Cuquita “Cookie” Rice; twin sons, James and Perry Rice; grandchildren, Ambria Galbraith and Jonathan Enders; brothers, Donald and Lavelle Rice; and sisters, Eloise, Essie, Loyce, Vetoil, and Laverne. Left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Marlene Enders (Rickey), Lt. Col. Lesa Tilley (Ret.) (Danny), Jerri Kaner, Melissa Harris (Will) and Karen Rice (Katy); sons, John Rice (Gina), Alfonso Garcia, III; 13 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; siblings, brothers, Eugene, Nathan, and Herman Rice; and sisters, Jessie Massey, and Wanda Cox.

The family would like to express our sincere gratitude to the staff at The Glen Retirement System and St. Joseph Hospice for the wonderful care they showed our dad, especially to Renee, RN; Angela, CNA; and Chaplin Sam who went above and beyond their call of duty.  

Honoring Wachel as pallbearers will be Ronnie Jordan, Bubba Gilcrease, Tommy Keene, Glen Craig, Shelby Keith, and Danny Tilley.
