Services to celebrate the life of Walter Barnwell Calvert will be held 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday January 20th, 2015 at Christ Memorial Episcopal Church of Mansfield, LA. Officiating will be Father Michael Millard.
Mr. Calvert passed away peacefully January 17th, 2015 at his home in Mansfield. Visitation will be held at Rose-Neath Funeral Home of Mansfield on Monday January 19th, 2015 from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
Mr. Calvert was born in Mansfield October 19th, 1925, and graduated from Mansfield High School and Sam Houston College. Mr. Calvert was a long time and well known banker in Mansfield, in addition to having served as the Mayor of the City of Mansfield for sixteen years. Among the many notable civic improvements that Mayor Calvert accomplished during his tenure was the construction of the Mansfield water plant on Toledo Bend and accompanying pipeline, waste water treatment plant and current city hall. To this day and even during the most severe droughts, the water plant continues to supply the City of Mansfield dependable drinking water. Mr. Calvert was a one-time amateur pilot, tennis player and avid golfer.
He is survived by his five children, Jean L. Calvert, Bill Calvert and wife Karen, Richard Evans Calvert, Steve Calvert, and Dollye Calvert Villena. Grandchildren Scott Stone, Calvert Stone, Richard Calvert, Jr., Elliott Calvert, Alejo Villena, Isabelle Villena and great-grandchildren, Asa Stone, Zoe Stone, Annabelle Stone, Camille Stone, Andrew Stone, Ollie Stone, III, Slade Stephens, Sophia Stephens, John Evans Calvert and Sarah Margaret Calvert. He is also survived by his siblings, Wanda Jean Harris and husband Warren, David Calvert and wife Peggy, and Martha Calvert.
Pallbearers are grandsons and nephews Jim Ruffin and Locke Harris.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Christ Memorial Episcopal Church, Mansfield, Louisiana.
