A Celebration of Life for Walter Everett "Rett" Shumate will be held, 11:00 a.m., Monday, August 16, 2021, at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, Bossier City, Louisiana.
Rett was born May 12, 1971, in Shreveport, Louisiana to Walter "Randy" Shumate and Gail Marple and passed away August 8, 2021, in Bossier City, Louisiana.
He graduated from Captain Shreve High School in 1989. After school he joined the United States Navy. He served from 1989-1992 on the USS Midway CV-41. He served during Desert Storm and was a part of the decommissioning of the USS Midway CV- 41. After his time in the military, Rett followed in the footsteps of his father and grandfather by starting a career of car sales. Rett was also a passionate entrepreneur and he put forth his full effort and confidence into all his aspirations. Rett was a very strong-willed person who faced many difficult obstacles in his life, but he always pushed through no matter the circumstance.
Rett is preceded in death by his grandparents, Jack and Gladys Shumate; stepmother, Jean Shumate and his brother-in-law, Doug Colbeck. He is survived by his parents; stepfather, Jim Marple; daughter, Chloe Shumate; sisters, Kim Colbeck and Meredith Parker; brothers-in-law, Robert Easton and Eric Parker; nieces, Chandler Colbeck, Reagan Parker and Addison Parker; nephew, Noah Colbeck; former wife, Karen Shumate; and lifelong friend, Megon Smith.
