Wanda "Lucy" Head

Wanda Lou \"Lucy\" Volentine Head entered into eternal rest on Monday, February 22, 2016 after a short illness. Funeral services will be held at the Chapel of Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Arcadia, LA on Friday, February 26 at 2:00 pm with Rev. Spencer Lovitt officiating and Rev. Perry Anderson assisting. Interment will follow at Tulip Cemetery in Athens, LA. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, February 25 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. Mrs. Head was born May 21, 1943 in Minden, LA to Fredrick Dan and Sudie Bernice Lee Volentine. She was a descendant of early pioneers of Claiborne Parish including William and Nancy Crow Lee; James David and Elizabeth Theressa Hall Volentine; James Wilson and Mary Elizabeth Barnes Cobb and Matthew and Susan Frances Cranford Harmon, who came to Claiborne parish around 1900. Wanda is survived by her husband John Calvin Head; three daughters, Karen Yvonne and husband Jay Roberts of Minden, LA, Teresa Gail and husband, Shawn Rougon of Denham Springs, LA, Kathleen Bernice and Brent Givens of Mooringsport, LA; two sons, Richard Calvin and Margo Anne Eshleman Head of Waterford, WI, Michael Earl and Alecia Teston Head of Blanchard, LA; thirteen grandchildren and six great grandchildren; three brothers, Kenneth Lee and wife Beverly Volentine, Edwin Bo Volentine, and Dan Millard and wife, Dianne Volentine; special friend, Judy Volentine as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Wanda was preceded in death by her parents and great granddaughter, Rozalynn Y. Dunivan. Mrs. Head was a loving wife, mother, and friend. She worked in the Summer Grove School PTA and served twenty years in Girl Scouts. She was an avid genealogical researcher and author of the \"Ancestor Hunting\" column in the Shreveport Journal and The Times. She also authored many genealogy books including Harman Heritage - Zachariah & Rebecca (Petty) Harman and Many of Their Descendants 1741-2000. Wanda was a member of the Mount Olive Baptist Church in Marsalis. LA and studied her Bible regularly. Pallbearers will be Andrew Head, John Michael Head, Bryce Maddox, Seth Rougon, Christopher Shields, Kevin Volentine, Rodney Volentine and honorary pallbearer, Kenneth Volentine, Jr. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Mount Olive Baptist Church or St. Jude Children\'s Research Hospital.
