Funeral services for Waymon Chelette, 80, will be held on Thursday, August 12, 2021 at 12:00 p.m. at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 2500 Southside Drive, Shreveport, Louisiana. Burial will follow at the Northwest Louisiana Veterans Cemetery, 7970 Mike Clark Rd., Keithville, Louisiana. A visitation will be held Wednesday, August 11, 2021 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
He was born on January 5, 1941 in Dodson, Louisiana to Virginia and Railey Chelette and passed away on Monday, August 9, 2021 in Shreveport, Louisiana from pancreatic cancer..
Waymon was a resident of Keithville, Louisiana. He was the owner of Papaw's Fried Chicken and Kim's Fried Chicken. He also was the Manager of Alamo Plaza, Chateau Royale Apartments and the Wellington Square Apartments during his career. One of his favorite activities was taking his family camping in Arkansas where many memories were made. He was in the Knights of Columbus, was a Eucaristic Minister and Treasurer of Sacred Hearts Catholic Church and was very strong in his faith. Waymon had a passion for writing poetry with some being published. He enjoyed bass fishing, playing golf and did the rodeo in his younger days. He served in the 47th Infantry in the Army and was very proud of his military service during the Cold War. He loved his Texas Rangers and followed them throughout every season. He loved his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren with every fiber of his being. He was the best father and grandfather and would do anything for his family or anyone in need.
Waymon is preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Tommy and Ray Chelette. Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 60 years, Teresa; children, Suzanne Ivey and husband J.W.; Bridget Chelette, Wayne Chelette and wife, Misty, Kimberly Stubblefield and husband, George; grandchildren, Stephen Keenan (Amanda), Brianna Chelette (Dustin), Justin Ivey (Brittney), Heather Ivey, Eli Stubblefield (Kristen), Anthony Miciotto, Taylor, Megan and Railey Chelette; and nine great-grandchildren; brother, Eugene Chelette and wife, Ann; and sister, Margie Cliffton.
Serving as honorary pallbearers for Waymon are Stephen Keenan, Justin Ivey, Eli Stubblefield, Anthony Miciotto, Mark Guin, Dean Guin and William Keith.
The family would like to express special thanks to the Carpenter House and St. Joseph Hospice for all the care and compassion shown to Waymon during his illness.
