William "Bill" Harrison Green

Funeral services for William Harrison Green, 92, will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, April 21, 2018 at Rose-Neath Southside Chapel with Rev. John Harp and Rev. Wayne Fussell officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Park West Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. William was born June 9, 1925 in Terrell, TX to Harrison and Johnnie Green and went to be with the Lord on April 15, 2018 in Shreveport. He was an Eagle Scout and won a trip to World's Fair in New York in 1939. He graduated from C.E. Byrd High School and attended Centenary College for two years. He served in the Army Air Corps during WWII as a radar specialist. He was a manager for the U.S. Post Office and served on the Post Office Employee Credit Union Board for several years. William was a member of Westside Baptist Church, where he was a Sunday school teacher and superintendent of Sunday school. He was an active member of Brookwood Baptist Church since 1991 and recently attended Midway Church of Christ. He played baseball with Triple-A Sherman Twins in Texas. He was a Boy Scout Troop Leader and American Legion baseball coach. He was a member of American Legion 4th District, Cedar Grove Post. He served as Vice-Commander, Commander, District Area A Commander, and Past Department Executive Committeeman. William was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Wilbur Green and Harold Green. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of sixty-seven years, Iris Elizabeth Smith; children, Gary A. Green and wife Catherine and Nancy Green Gilcrease and husband Gary; grandchildren, Lindsay Green Abernathy and husband Scott, A. Taylor Green and wife Whitney, W. Cody Gilcrease and wife Kari, and J. Casey Gilcrease and wife Jacqueline; great-grandchildren, Jaden B. Procell, Jackson B. Procell, Maximus J. Abernathy, and Wrigley A. Green; sister, Mary Green Leiter; and many nieces and nephews. Honoring William as pallbearers will be Jaden Procell, Jackson Procell, Cody Gilcrease, Casey Gilcrease, Taylor Green, and Scott Abernathy. Serving as honorary pallbearer will be Maximus Abernathy. The family would like to give a special thanks to the staff at The Glen and Southern Care Hospice.
