SHREVEPORT, LA - William Lane "Bill" Hightower, age 80, died at Willis Knighton Pierremont after a lengthy illness. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 3, 2015 at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 1815 Marshall Street, Shreveport, LA. Interment will follow at Garden of Memories in Minden, LA. Visitation will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday prior to the service. He will be laid to rest beside his wife, Evelyn Holcomb Hightower.
Mr. Hightower was born in Claiborne Parish on December 27, 1934 and has lived in the Shreveport and Bossier City area for many years. Bill had a generous heart and was loved by all who knew him. He was a partner at the accounting firm of Heard, McElroy and Vestal. He held a Bachelor's degree from Louisiana State University and a Masters' degree from Louisiana Tech University. He and his wife, Evelyn, were members of Noel Methodist Church for many years. He loved shooting sports and was active in two area gun clubs. Growing up Bill was very active in 4H Club, and won many trophies and ribbons at livestock shows and competitions. He was named Louisiana's top 4H member in 1953. He served in his country in the National Guard from 1958 to 1964.
Mr. Hightower was preceded in death by his parents, Wilbur Coleman Hightower and Kitty Watson Hightower and by his wife, Evelyn. He is survived by several cousins, Edward Rich and wife, Sherrie of Quitman, LA, Tom Rich of Alexander City, AL, Jan Conville and Martha Gilbert of Jonesboro, LA, Sara Hightower Townsend and Susan Hightower of Shreveport, LA and Sharon Claxton of Monroe, LA. He is also survived by lifelong friend, Spec Sherrill.
The family would like to express thanks and gratitude to Dr. Alan Borne and to the nurses, staff and aides at The Glen for caring for him for the past 8 years.
