William "Rusty" King

A Celebration of Life honoring William Russell “Rusty” King will be held on Saturday, October 19, 2024, at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 1815 Marshall Street, Shreveport, Louisiana. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00 a.m. Officiating the service will be Dustin B. Tuberville. 

Rusty was born September 26, 1962, to William Majors King and Dorothy Elaine King (nee Sandifer) at Barksdale Air Force Base in Bossier City, Louisiana. Following a lengthy illness and surrounded by his family, he passed away on Thursday, September 26, 2024.

For many years, Rusty worked as a welder, fabricator and at various industrial locations, throughout the United States, installing specialty fabricated products. As a subcontractor, he built many of the material handling systems at Libbey Glass in Shreveport, Louisiana. He later joined Libbey Glass and retired as Machine Repair Manager.

He is preceded in death by his mentor and grandmother, Mable Irene Sandifer; grandfather, Anthony D. Sandifer; mother, Dorothy E. Davidson; stepfather, Robert E. Davidson and uncle, Danny Sandifer.

He is survived by his son, Michael B. King; grandchildren, Zachary G. King, Dominic L. King, Kalei E. James (Leighton Bond); sisters, Donna E. Hightower and Deanne L. Cameron; brother, Randall M. King (Wendy); uncle, Dewayne Sandifer (Thelma); aunt, Kathy Allen (Howard Ray); nephews, Justin Cody Reeves (Julie), Jonathon L. Hightower (Holly), Andrew M. Bivona (Nicole); nieces, Erica Hernandez (Edwin), Elisa Palma, Emily Inyakov; father, William M. King; sister-in-law, Rae Honeycutt (Philip); brother-in-law, Bill Millerd; Kay King and a host of cherished family members and friends.

Rusty was an avid outdoorsman who filled his free time preparing for and participating in fishing tournaments -- Libbey Glass, McDonald’s, B&J Machine Works and Fishers of Men. He enjoyed hunting with family and friends in Mansfield, Louisiana; Bodcau, Louisiana at the Hogpen; Whitetail Hunting Club, Bienville, Louisiana and Shepherd Deer Camp, Emerson, Arkansas. He enjoyed riding his Harley. He was a LSU Tigers fan, regularly debated political issues and enjoyed wood-working.

Following services at Rose-Neath, family and friends will gather at 145 Chelsea Drive, Shreveport, Louisiana.

At a later date, family and friends will celebrate a scattering of ashes in Bienville, Louisiana.

The family extends their sincere appreciation to Kirtan N. Koticha, M.D. for his devoted care, along with the Christus Highland Medical Center team of doctors and nurses on 2nd Floor, CVICU, and Grace Home Hospice.
