William Lee (Bill) McCune, 81, walked into the arms of his Heavenly Father on January 8, 2019, at his home, surrounded by his family. As a small child, Bill moved with his family from Shreveport to the then very small community of Stonewall, LA, where he lived for the remainder of his life. He was a dedicated husband, father, and Papaw, longtime member of Salem Baptist Church in Stonewall, and a valued employee of Barrett Appliances in Shreveport from which he retired last year after 29 years of service. Although this was his job, it was much more to him than that. He loved his coworkers like family. Bill was quite a prankster. He got great enjoyment out of playing jokes on his family and friends, but most of all his work partner, Twyla Berry whom he loved like a daughter.
Bill is preceded in death by his parents, Curtis and Illa McCune, Sr.; wife, Bennie McCune; and his brother Curtis McCune, Jr., the former mayor of Stonewall. He is survived by his sister, Nan Baker; sister-in-law, Nancy McCune; his daughters, Lesia Burnley and Sandy Robinson and husband James; stepdaughter, Jamie Simonelli and husband Angelo; stepsons, Mark Greathouse and wife Susan and Scott Greathouse; 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. Friday, January 11, 2019 at Salem Baptist Church with Dr. Mike Hawkins, Mr. Vernon Burgess, and Lt. Col. (Ret.) Rob Baker officiating. Interment will follow at Stonewall Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the church. Pallbearers will be his grandsons.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Salem Baptist Church Building Fund.
A special thanks to Betty Ann Stephenson and Toni Reeves for their love and care, as well as Regional Hospice staff and Dr. Felicia and staff of Advanced Cardiology Specialist.
