Funeral services honoring the life of Mr. William "Billy" Edwin McElroy, 98, will be held at 1:30 p.m., Friday, December 20, 2019 at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Mansfield, Louisiana with Rev. Joe Waggener and Rev. Weyland Gauntt officiating. Family will receive friends for visitation at the chapel from 1:00 p.m. until service time. Interment will be held at Highland Cemetery in Mansfield.
William was born on January 11, 1921 in Oil City, Louisiana to Jake and Ruby McElroy. He entered into rest on December 16, 2019 in Mansfield, Louisiana.
Mr. McElroy was an instructor and navigator who honorably served in the United States Army Air Corps from March 11, 1943 to March 3, 1946. He owned and operated McElroy Electric Company for many years. After retirement from McElroy Electric Company, he became the city of Mansfield's Electrical Inspector until 2016 at the age of 95.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife of 56 years, Marjorie Carey McElroy and his sisters, Dorothy Deen and Mary Ellen Register.
William is survived by his wife, Jean Harris McElroy of Mansfield, LA; daughters, Margaret Hines of Los Angeles, CA; Susan Pickett of Tampa, FL; Christy LoBue and husband John of Keithville, LA; stepdaughter, Debra Collier and husband Bruce of Mansfield, LA; stepsons, Mike Cooke of Mansfield, LA and Shane Harris and wife Tammy of Stonewall, LA; grandchildren, Holly Hines, Blake Pickett, Will Pickett, Brady LoBue, Justin LoBue and Christian LoBue; great-grandchildren, Carson Pickett, Harlow Hines and Faith LoBue.
Serving Mr. McElroy as pallbearers will be Charlie Frazier, Blake Pickett, Brady LoBue, Justin LoBue, Christian LoBue, John Beckett, Steve Jones and Joe Craig Fleniken.
Honorary pallbearers will be Veterans at VFW Post #4586.
