William Russell Smart

Funeral services for William Russell Smart, 77, will be held on Wednesday, April 12, 2023 at 9:00 a.m. at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 2500 Southside Dr., Shreveport, Louisiana. Burial will follow at Forest Park West Cemetery, 4000 Meriwether Rd., Shreveport, Louisiana. A visitation will be held Tuesday, April 11, 2023 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Russell was born on August 29, 1945 in Minden, Louisiana to Alma “Red” Smart and Julia Yarborough Smart and passed away on Friday, March 31, 2023 in Shreveport.

Russell was a resident of Keithville, Louisiana. He was an outdoorsman that enjoyed hunting, fishing, working on cars and riding his motorcycle. He loved his dogs and was a “damn good cook!” He served in Vietnam in the United States Army as a helicopter mechanic. Russell retired from Poulan and worked at AT&T where he was a forklift operator for both companies. He was a hard-headed, stubborn man but had a loving and caring side as well. The family will forever love and cherish his memory.

Russell was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Alice Smart Aultman. Left to cherish his memory is his life partner, Carolyn Nutt; son, Mitch Smart and wife, Sheree; daughters, Haley Soldner and husband, Paul and their daughter, Kylie, and Selina Burt and husband, Scott and their children, Michael and Andrea; sisters, Irma Jean Smart and Ann Smart Woods; nephews, Jeff Smart and wife, Marilyn, and Eric Smart and wife, Ann; great-nieces, Kristin Laux and husband, Ryan and their two children, and Jennifer Williams and husband, Kyle and their three children; and great-nephew, Landon Smart. 

Honoring Russell as pallbearers will be his son, Mitch Smart, grandson, Justin Schmidt, nephews, Eric Smart and Jeff Smart, great-nephew, Landon Smart, and friend, Jody Williams.

The family suggests memorials may be made to Paws 4 Life.
