SHREVEPORT, LA - A Funeral Service for William Douglas Terry, 87, will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, March 11, 2017 at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 1815 Marshall Street, Shreveport, LA. Officiating will be Pastor Ken McLaren of Holly Springs Southern Methodist Church, Holly Springs, LA assisted by Pastor Paul Zimmerman of Haughton Southern Methodist Church, Haughton, LA. Interment will follow at Forest Park East Cemetery, Shreveport, LA. The family will receive friends from 9:00 a.m. Saturday until service time at the funeral home. Doug was born February 2, 1930, in Ringgold, LA to Beulah Anderson and William Ambrose Terry, and passed away March 8, 2017 in Shreveport, LA. Doug grew up in Leesville, LA during the beginning of World War II, where he shined shoes and sold peanuts to the soldiers getting ready to go overseas. His family later lived in Arcadia, LA and Doug served as equipment manager for the Arcadia High School football team. When his parents had to move to Bossier City for a job opportunity, Doug lived in the school basement to finish out the year and receive his football letter. He graduated from Bossier High School in 1950. At the age of 26 Doug had a particular type of heart surgery that had never been performed in Shreveport before, and was very successful. Doug worked for different companies throughout his life as a draftsman before retiring in 1993. Doug was active in the Southern Methodist Church as treasurer and board member. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather and friend to many all that loved Doug will truly miss him. Preceding Doug in death were his parents, his sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Glen Bjorklund, and brother-in-law, Bob Flowers. Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 61 years, Betsy Terry; daughter, Veda Westby and husband, Gary; son, Hamp Terry and Debbie; grandchildren, Kenneth Howard and girlfriend, Rachel Kot, Kevin Howard and girlfriend, Kari Chambliss, Robin Owens and husband, Elijah Owens, Audrey Westby, and Britt Westby; great-grandchildren, Sadie Howard, and Olivia Owens; numerous nieces and nephews. Honoring Doug as pallbearers will be Gary Westby, Kevin Howard, Steve Flowers, Kevin Flowers, Elijah Owens, and Britt Westby. The family suggests memorials be made to American Heart Association, 1101 Northchase PKY., Suite 1, Marietta, GA 30067, Shriners Hospital for Children, 3100 Samford Ave, Shreveport, LA 71103, or Southern Methodist Church of Haughton, 4206 Highway 80, Haughton, LA 71037
