William Gordon Wilson, Sr.

Funeral services for William “Bill” Gordon Wilson, Sr., 93, will be held on Saturday, November 9, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 2500 Southside Dr., Shreveport, Louisiana. Burial will follow at Core Cemetery in Jefferson, Texas. A visitation will be held Saturday, November 9, 2024, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Rose-Neath. Officiating the service will be Dr. Steven Petty.

Bill was born on February 27, 1931, in Jefferson, Texas to Josiah L. Wilson, Sr. and Minnie Ethel Smyers Wilson and passed away in Shreveport on November 2, 2024.

Bill married Maurice R. Ward Wilson on December 28, 1948, and they were married for 60 wonderful years. They moved many times for his career in the United States Army from 1948-1972. He served in Korea, France, Germany and was a proud Vietnam War Vet. He was awarded the Bronze Star and Soldiers Medal for saving a life in Vietnam. He retired from the Army as a Command Sergeant Major E-9. He loved his three children, three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He loved to fish and tell Cajun stories. He was generous and always had a kind word for everyone. He was well loved by his family and friends. The best thing of all is he loved Pinecroft Baptist Church and was a devout Christian believer. 

Bill is preceded in death by his wife, Maurice R. Wilson. Left to cherish his memory are his children, son, Gordon Wilson and wife, Mary L. Wilson; daughters, Carole R. Bell and husband, Michael D. Bell, and Janet Wilson; grandsons, Michael D. Bell, Jr., Jared A. Wilson and wife, Heidi L. Wilson, and Zachary S. Wilson and wife, Jessica L. Wilson; great-grandchildren, Josiah, Miles, Nova, Clara, Quinn, and Nate.

Serving Bill as honorary pallbearers will be his Sunday School class at Pinecroft Baptist Church.

The family suggests memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, TN or the American Kidney Foundation.
