HAUGHTON, LA - Graveside services for Willis "Bill" Murphy Jr., 75, will be 10 a.m. Friday, May 4, 2018 at Antioch Cemetery, on the grounds of Antioch Baptist Church, in Dixie Inn (Minden) LA. Rev. Bill Lott will be presiding over the service. Visitation will be 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, May 3, 2018 at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Bossier City.
Bill, or Murphy, as he was affectionately known, went to be with our Heavenly Father on Tuesday, May 1, 2018. He was born in Shreveport, LA on October 30, 1942 to parents Willis Bailey Murphy and Novelene Christine Morris Murphy. Bill graduated from Minden High School in 1960, and shortly thereafter joined the Army National Guard and the US Navy. He attended Northwestern State University, where he was a member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity and later graduated from LSU-Shreveport with a Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice. He joined the Bossier City Police Department in 1972, retiring at the rank of Captain after twenty years. Bill was also an officer at the Bossier Sheriff's Office from 1992-2004, and was the first SRO of Princeton Middle School (Haughton Middle School). He was a great big man with an even bigger heart. He loved all things LSU, attending his grandchildren's numerous events and activities, along with keeping up with his family members and longtime friends by phone or text.
He is survived by his wife, Sheryl Grayson Murphy, and two children; son, Randy Murphy, and daughter, Jamie White and husband, Shane; daughter-in-law, Hope Murphy; sister, Patricia Rushing; grandchildren, Keaton and Kaleb Murphy, Tyler Schufft, Allison, Emily and Madelyn Murphy, Devin, Sara and Loraine White. He is preceded in death by his parents and son, Willis Bailey Murphy, III. He is also survived by his nephews and nieces; Terry and Brian Sherman, John "Bubba" Petty, Walter Rushing, Patti Webb, and Jeanne Pitman.
