Woodrow Wilson Haskins, Jr.

BOSSIER CITY, LA - A Celebration of Life for Woodrow Wilson Haskins, Jr., 78, will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, April 23, 2018, at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, Marshall Street, Shreveport, LA. Burial will follow at 1:00 p.m. in Marthaville Cemetery, Marthaville, LA. Officiating will be Rev. Richard Tull of Mt. Olivet Baptist Church, Stanley, LA. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. Sunday, April 22, 2018 at the funeral home. Woodrow passed away on Thursday, April 19, 2018, after a brief illness. Woody grew up in Cedar Grove and attended Fair Park High School. He joined the Marines in June of 1960 and served four years. After his military service he met Muffin Pierce and they were married and had two sons, Christopher and William and two daughters, Victoria and Elizabeth. He worked with his brother Gene at Haskins Heating and Air Conditioning and later Arkla Gas Grills for over 40 years. Woodrow was a very talented oil painter and always had an easel set up in the dining room with his current painting. Muffin and Woodrow divorced in 1986 and in the same year Woodrow began attending Alcoholics Anonymous and became sober. He was just shy of receiving his 32 year Sobriety Chip. He attended meetings at 5:30 p.m. daily at the Koala Club in Bossier. Everyone there knew him and he never met a stranger. His sense of humor was legendary and helped him and others through some very tough times. Daddy was a very humble man, but we have gotten to learn so much about him from his many AA friends. Black, white, old, young, rich or poor, substance abuse is a great equalizer and daddy dedicated his life to helping others fight their addictions while he fought his. AA was his family; the members were his brothers and sisters. He will be deeply missed by all. Woodrow was preceded in death by his father Woodrow Wilson Haskins, Sr. and mother Amber Eason Haskins, and by his second wife, Vicki Lyn Blanchard Haskins. Left to cherish his memory are his first wife and mother of his children and lifelong friend, Muffin Haskins; his sons, Christopher Haskins and William Haskins and wife Tamara; daughters, Victoria Haskins and Elizabeth Funk and husband Patrick; grandchildren, Meagan Freeman, Allie Haskins, Ryllie Haskins, Amber Farrell, Cyan Haskins, Lauren Dowden, Lindsay Dowden, Ryan Dowden, Helena Moreau, William Moreau, Claire Funk, Andrew Funk, Daniel Funk, and Katherine Funk; four great-grandchildren; two brothers, Gene Haskins and wife Linda and Shad Haskins and wife Pat; two step-brothers, Tommy Bass and Steve Bass; numerous nieces and nephews and a host of friends. The family extends their gratitude to Aime Hospice for their care and compassion. Honoring Woody as pallbearers will be Patrick Funk, Ryan Dowden, Andrew Funk, Daniel Funk, Mark Logan, and Jerry Brown. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Cyan Haskins, Wayne Colby, Rodney Butler, Mike Johnston and members of the Koala Club of Bossier City, LA.
