W.V. "Bill" Dark

W.V. "Bill" Dark was born December 31, 1926, in Dodson, LA (Gaar's Mill Community) to Pink Troupe and Kara Crain Dark. He passed away April 25, 2018. Bill was a Pharmacist's Mate Third Class in the U.S. Navy during WWII serving on the USS LST 952 in the South Pacific, US FLT Hospitals #110, #111 and US Navy Base Hospital #18 among others. Bill was a devoted member of St. George's Episcopal Church in Bossier City. He was a Mason for over 60 years and a Shriner more than 50 years. He volunteered many years for the Annual El Karubah Temple Shrine circus activities. He retired as a Vice President of Pioneer Bank & Trust after 42 years. In addition to his parents, Bill is preceded in death by his son Mark W. Dark, daughter Dennis Henson, sisters Melba Durham and Geri Garberg and brother John M. Dark. Bill is survived by his wife of 51 years, Viola Weaver Dark; children Eddie Campbell, Marsha Dark and Tamee Dark; nephews Douglas Durham, Roger Garberg and John T. Dark along with numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Bill's memory to the Shrine Hospital for Children, 3100 Samford Avenue, Shreveport, LA 71103. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to The Savannah staff at The Oaks of Louisiana for Bill's assisted living care during the past five years along with additional caregivers from C & B Hands for his final months. Special thanks are given for spiritual support from The Very Rev. James E. Flowers, Jr., and Rev. Andrew Comeaux.
