Alice Nell Clingman

Alice "Nell" Clingman was born July 6, 1939, in the homeplace her Daddy built. Being born a few days after Independence Day was befitting because she was quite the "firecracker." There were many sides to Nell. If you ever crossed her, you knew what it was like to have a "tiger by the tail." She had grit with plenty to spare. She was a "plant whisperer" who could bring lifeless plants back to vibrancy. Nell enjoyed God's creatures and cooking. (Sadly, she took her famous chocolate pie recipe with her). Nell aka "wash woman" had the difficult task of managing the laundry for the entire Willis-Knighton hospital system until her retirement many years ago. Afterwards she enjoyed the solitude of her country home. She was an avid nature watcher and loved to work in her yard. Nell will be remembered as the gutsy, outspoken, strong, independent woman she was. Nell was a quick-witted and interesting individual. This world will lack the "colorfulness" it had when she was here. She was preceded in death by her parents, James Fullilove Clingman Sr. and Alice Katherine O'Donnell. Those she is leaving behind are her brother, Jim Fullilove Clingman, Jr. (wife, Gloria Beth); her sister, Linda Lee New (husband, Morgan Wayne); her daughter, Alma Nell Cook (husband, John William); and her son, Marvin "Shorty" Louis Townsend, Jr. (wife, Michelle "Shelly" Gay); grandmother of five amazing individuals: Michael David Wickliffe (wife, Jennifer Lynne); Amanda Kay Wickliffe; Ruben Allen "Cody" Andersen (wife, Lauren Michelle Andersen); Dusty Gay Fawn Hayes (husband, Benjamin "Ben" James); and Joshua James Townsend (fiancée, Jacey Lynn Bass); great- grandmother of ten beautiful children: Courtney and Emily Richard, John, Skylar, and Cameron Wickliffe, Heidi Roberts, Lainey Andersen, Leah, Allie, and Nolan Hayes. A Memorial Service for Nell will be held on Friday, June 25, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 2500 Southside Drive, Shreveport, Louisiana. Officiating the service will be Brother Mike Stowell.
