Funeral services for Betty D. Murphy, 90, will be held on Friday, April 23, 2021 at 12:00 p.m. at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 2500 Southside Dr., Shreveport, Louisiana. Burial will follow at Forest Park West Cemetery, 4000 Meriwether Road, Shreveport. A visitation will be held Thursday, April 22, 2021 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Officiating the service will be Brother Freddy Williford, pastor of Ford Park Baptist Church.
Betty was born on December 24, 1930 to Sedric Wesley and Elsie Grigsby Dickerson in Winnfield, Louisiana and passed away on Sunday, April 18, 2021 in Shreveport, Louisiana.
Betty was a homemaker and mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother extraordinaire. Her children and grandchildren were the light of her life! She was an active member of Ford Park Baptist Church and enjoyed all the fellowship of her church family throughout the years. She was also a dedicated military wife to her husband, James, for many years.
Betty is preceded in death by her parents; husband of 65 years, James Henry Murphy; great-grandson, Grant Williams; and brother, John E. Dickerson. Left to cherish her memory is her son, James W. Murphy and wife, Jean; daughter, Joan M. Rozzell and husband, Tommy; five grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Honoring Betty as pallbearers will be grandson, Justin Rozzell, Jerome Jackson, great-grandson, David Pastorius, great-granddaughter, Taylor Pastorius, Luke Williams, and great-grandson, Aiden Beaver.
The family would like to express special thanks to Ochsner's Neurology Department and their staff, Southern Hills Healthcare and Rehabilitation, and Lifepath Hospice for the wonderful care, support and love shown to Betty during her illness.
