Dr. Ali Mansouri, 81, died peacefully on April 18, 2021, in Shreveport, LA, surrounded by his loving family. Ali was born in Tehran, Iran. He received his Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Geneva in Switzerland. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine and fellowship in Hematology-Oncology at New York University in New York. Ali was preceded in death by his parents and sister. He is survived by his loving wife Maria-Theresia; two loving daughters, Jaleh and Roya (Enoch); as well as his three grandchildren. He is also deeply mourned by numerous relatives in Germany. Ali was Professor of Medicine at Louisiana State University Health Shreveport and formerly served as Chief of Hematology/Oncology at Overton Brooks VA Medical Center. He was deeply devoted to caring for his patients and had a special affinity for veterans. He also had a passion for conducting basic science research and enjoyed mentoring medical students, residents, and fellows during a medical career that spanned almost 60 years. Ali retired from medicine in March, 2021, at the age of 81. Ali immigrated to the United States with his family in the 1960s and proudly served his new country in the US Air Force Reserve at Barksdale Air Force Base. He retired from the military with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. In addition to practicing medicine, Ali enjoyed painting, writing poems and short stories, and traveling with his family. His loving wife and daughters are deeply sorrowful for the loss of a wonderful husband and father who lead a life marked by integrity, generosity, courage, and deep compassion for his family, patients, country, and fellow human beings. His keen insights and wisdom of life's many facets as well as his sense of humor will also be deeply missed. A private graveside ceremony with military honors was held on April 21, 2021 at Rose-Neath Cemetery. Ali's family would like to thank the WK Pierremont Health Center nurses and medical staff, particularly Dr. Jonathan Davis and Dr. Kamal Masri, for their compassionate care they gave Ali during the last days of his life. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758516, Topeka, Kansas 66675-8516.
