Edward Steven Nix, Sr. was born February 7, 1947 in Long Beach, California to Clifford and Eva Nix. He passed away on March 6, 2021 at the age of 74 years old due to a brief illness in Bossier City, Louisiana. He was surrounded by his three children. He developed his deep love for the wilderness during his wonderful childhood in Glendive, Montana, spending time camping with his family in Yellowstone National Park and exploring the badlands of Makoshika State Park. His family eventually settled in Lake Charles, Louisiana where he graduated from LaGrange High School in 1964. He went on to graduate from Louisiana Tech University. He enlisted in the United States Navy in 1969 and proudly served his country during the Vietnam era in Adak, Alaska and Todendorf, Germany. He had a lengthy career with Arkla Gas Company/NORAM Energy/Centerpoint Energy in Shreveport, Louisiana and Ft. Smith, Arkansas. Ed was an avid outdoorsman. His children have many fond memories with him at Love Lake Hunting Club and various lakes throughout Arkansas and Louisiana. He loved telling stories about his hunting and fishing adventures with his best friend, Donald "Duck" Bean. There was always just one more hunt on his bucket list. The highlight of his life was living at the Rusty Antler Ranch in his later years. He was extremely honored to assist with hunts for children with catastrophic illness through Buckmasters Life Hunts and the Dream Hunt Foundation. One of those children, Colton Peveto, made a lasting impression on Ed. In 2017, Ed was fortunate to take a "bucket list" road trip back to Montana where he was able to reconnect with his childhood friends. His greatest joy was watching his grandchildren do what they loved. He became "Pops" to everyone. Ed was preceded in death by his parents, Clifford William Nix and Eva Turkovich Nix, a brother John Nix, brother-in-law Charles Reed, and a niece, Summer Reed. Ed is survived by son Steven Nix of Midland, TX; daughter Leah Nix Marshall and husband Barret of Dallas, TX; son Michael Nix and wife Candice of Benton, LA. His grandchildren Tripp, Luke, and Drew Marshall of Dallas, TX; Mary Michael and Maggie Dison, and Major Nix, of Benton, Louisiana. Sister Ida Nix Reed of Sulphur, Louisiana. Nieces and nephews Ashleigh Smith, Leslie Doucette, Chuck Reed, John Nix, Cliff Nix and their families. Extended family members Deneise and Randy Wardrup. He also leaves behind his loyal dog, Brandy. Honoring Pops serving as pallbearers will be; Barret Marshall, Chuck Reed, Brian Comeaux, Trey Sepulvado, Tripp Marshall and Luke Marshall In lieu of flowers, Ed would love for you to support the Dream Hunt Foundation; 315 Deer Crossing; Stonewall, LA 71078. Pops requested that people dress casually at his service. The family wishes to thank Dan Stringer and Rob Martin at Willis Knighton Bossier for their unwavering compassion and advocacy for our father.
