Ethelene was born on September 24, 1926 in Shreveport, Louisiana and went home to be with the Lord on December 20, 2020 in Raleigh, North Carolina. She grew up in Shreveport, attended Ingleside Baptist Church, and graduated from Fair Park High School. She attended Centenary College, and then graduated from East Texas Baptist College, Marshall, Texas in 1950 with a B.S. in Education. She taught elementary school in the early years following her graduation. But for most of her adult years she was a homemaker and devoted pastor's wife. She is remembered best for her 29 years of service, alongside her husband, Dr. Charles E. Harvey at Sunset Acres Baptist Church in Shreveport, Louisiana. She was active in church ministry while serving as the director of an Adult Sunday School Department, Director of VBS and Director of the Benevolent Ministry (clothing distribution). She was truly busy in ministry and served faithfully. She was the First Lady of ministry at Sunset Acres Baptist Church in Shreveport, Louisiana for 29 years. Her husband was called by the congregation, "Preacher." Likewise, the church called her affectionately, "Miss Preacher.\" In her later years, Ethelene attended Broadmoor Baptist Church in Shreveport, Louisiana where she was involved in the Grief Ministry of the church. Ethelene was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Charles E. Harvey, Sr., parents, Olin and Ethel Bazer; sister, Jean Word and husband James. She is survived by her sons, Dr. Charles Harvey Jr. and wife Barbara; Dr. Ron Harvey and wife Rhonda; grandsons, David Harvey, Dr. Chet Harvey and wife, Anna; 3 great grandchildren, Cash, Mae and Win Harvey; and 3 nieces, Cathy Word-Allen, Kerry Orozco-Word, and Lin Norman. The family wishes to thank all for expressions of love and support. Special thanks to Kilpatrick's Rose-Neath Funeral Homes for their assistance with arrangements. "Trust in the LORD with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will direct your paths" (Proverbs 3:5-6).
