Gladys Marie Preston

Funeral services for Gladys Marie Preston, 81, will be held at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 2500 Southside Dr., Shreveport, Louisiana on Monday, March 8, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Forest Park West Cemetery in Shreveport, Louisiana. A visitation will be held Sunday, March 7, 2021 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Officiating the service will be Reverend Leonard Lindsey. Gladys was born on January 25, 1940 in Shreveport, Louisiana to Houston Hedges, Sr. and Ernestine Hedges Gallien and passed away Wednesday, March 3, 2021 in Shreveport, Louisiana. She was a people person who enjoyed caring for others. She spent over 20 years caring for patients as a private Certified Nursing Assistant. After retirement, she continued working in various restaurants and as a Slot Supervisor at the Horseshoe Casino where she was able to be with people and assist them in any way she could, which she truly enjoyed. When not working, she was found in her garden tending to her plants and flowers and watching her hummingbirds at their feeders or in the kitchen cooking. Gladys is preceded in death by her father and step-mother, Houston and Ruth Hedges, Sr.; mother and step-father, Ernestine and Raymond Gallien; husband of 48 years, A. J. Preston; brother, Houston E. Hedges, Jr. and brother-in-laws, Troy Fore and Benjamin Bacon. She is survived by her daughters, Teena Parkinson and husband, Jim and Candee Preston; siblings, Yvonne Fore, Dr. Winston Hedges and wife, Sindy, Marcia Burton and husband, Dr. John Burton, Lisa Bacon, Mark Hedges and wife, Carolyn and Kay Hathaway and husband, Dr. Bill Hathaway; sister-in-law, Beverly Sumner; long-term friend, Darrell Dagen; grandchildren, Brandy Purser and Christy Viers and great-grandchildren, Madison Purser, Brett Purser and Annabelle Viers. The family would like to express special thanks to the staff at The Oaks of Louisiana and Dr. Gary Williams for their care and compassion given to Gladys.
