Iona Syble Ashley

Iona Syble Clark Ashley, 95, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 3, 2021 just before her 96th birthday surrounded by her family in Shreveport. She is now in the arms of her Savior. She was born on May 9, 1925 to George S. Clark and Iona Frith Clark in Mooringsport, Louisiana. A memorial service will be held at a later date with burial in Centuries Memorial Park. The memorial will be officiated by Rev. Willis Dear. Due to sickness in her life, her parents moved to Mooringsport after living in Potter's Point, Texas as Dr. Doles told her parents to take her home and love her because she would not live to start grade school. Well she did and went on to play the French horn in the marching band and graduate high school, then business school. In 1949 she married Clarence Gene Ashley. They celebrated 50 years of marriage in 1999. They enjoyed wonderful years together, whether on a trip or at the farm in Ringgold, Louisiana with the grandchildren. She was MawMaw to her grandchildren whom she loved dearly. She worked hard all of her life at Libbey Owens Ford, LSU Pecan Station, Red River Research Station and retired from the State. She is preceded in death by her husband; her parents; and brother, Jack Clark. Left to cherish her memory is her daughter, Nancy and husband, Bob of Grand Cane, Louisiana; grandchildren, Robert Treadway and wife, Kelly of Huntington, Texas, Amy Welton and husband, Rickye of Shelbyville, Texas; great-grandchildren, Chris Treadway (Deidre Peterson), and Matthew Treadway, Garrett Welton and Gage Welton; great-great-grandchildren, Audree and Emilee; and numerous nieces, nephews and other family members and friends. She and Clarence were Charter Members of Christ United Methodist Church. She loved the Joy Sunday School Class and the Women Circles. She was known for her strawberry salad and the family always wanted her to make her famous banana pudding. Honoring Iona as pallbearers will be Chris Treadway, Matthew Treadway, Garrett Welton, Gage Welton, Jimmy Ashley and Steve Ashley. The family would like to express special thanks to The Glen, Lifepath Hospice, and her caregivers, Natasha, Dino, Sally, Leslie, and Peaches for all their wonderful care, compassion and love given to Iona. The family suggests, in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Shriner's Hospital, 3100 Samford Avenue, Shreveport, Louisiana 71103.
