Funeral services celebrating the Life of Jack Edward Giles, Sr., 95, will be at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, October 29, 2020 at Rose-Neath Southside Chapel, Shreveport, Louisiana. Officiating will be Rev. Paul Navarre and the Masonic Funeral Rites. Interment will be at the Northwest Veterans Cemetery in Keithville, Louisiana, with Honor Guard Services. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until service time at Rose-Neath Southside Chapel. Mr. Giles was born on March 30, 1925 in Shreveport, Louisiana to Corrie Griffith Giles and Raymond Giles and passed away peacefully October 25, 2020 at his residence in Shreveport, LA with his family by his side. Jack was baptized on August 15, 1937 at the age of 12 at Winnfield Baptist Church to show his faith in the Lord. He went to grade school in Winnfield, Louisiana and later moved to Shreveport. Jack joined the Navy during WWII and was on the USS Curtiss and the USS Chandeleur Ships in the Southwest Pacific. He was a navy diver. After four years of service and honorable discharge, he came back to Shreveport and attended Centenary College before going to work in Natchez, Mississippi. While in Natchez, he met and married the love of his life Macel Cecile Daniels Giles on July 22, 1950. Later they moved to Shreveport where they were blessed with five children. Jack and Macel were members of Ingleside Baptist Church and later Kingston Road Baptist Church. Jack went to work for Bechtel Corporation in 1964 and retired in 1986 as a Pipeline Superintendent. He worked all over the world working with many nationalities throughout his career including Saudi Arabia, Libya, ABU Dhabi, Iraq, Columbia, Indonesia, even surviving being kidnapped by armed nationalists while in Columbia. Jack was truly a man of high integrity. He was a devoted son, brother, husband, father, uncle, father-in-law, grandpa and great-grandpa who loved his family unconditionally with all of his heart. He always had a sweet twinkle in his beautiful blue eyes when he was talking to you or smiling. You could stop by any time and he would be happy to see you and could tell you lots of interesting stories of his world travels. He taught himself to use a computer at age 80. Jack contributed to the Norton Foundation of recorded history of WWII. He enjoyed attending the BAFB WWII programs and loved to learn new things, travel, read and play the harmonica to his great-grand kids. He could play many different musical instruments, but the harmonica was his favorite. Jack was devoted to his beloved Masonic Fraternity. He enjoyed his membership as Past Master in Queensborough Lodge #418, Past High Priest of Queensborough Chapter #97 Royal Arch Mason, Past Illustrious Master of Shreveport Council #23 Royal & Select Masters, Past Commander of Ascension Commandery #6 Knights Templar, Past Monarch of Mithra Grotto, Past Worthy Patron of Eastern Star, the White Shrine of Jerusalem, Sojourners and High Twelve Clubs, Jack was also a very active member of El Karubah Shrine and was a 33rd Degree Scottish Rite Mason. He was also a long time active member of VFW Post #2238 and Plumbers & Pipefitters Local #141. He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, Mary Elizabeth Giles, Helen Marie Giles Graham and Lucy Jane (Janie) Giles McDearmont and one brother, Lt. Col. Jimmie Giles. Jack, with his eternal optimism, deep faith, inherent kindness, will be terribly missed by his family and all those whose lives he touched. He is survived by his wife of 70+ years Macel Cecile Daniels Giles, children, Gloria Presley and husband, Ray, Dorothy Rodgers and husband, Bill, Mary Compton and husband, Al, Frances Newland and husband, Mark and Jack Giles Jr. and wife, Dennie. Jack's grandchildren are Kimberly Rodgers, David Compton, Tommy Giles and wife, Megan, Colton Giles and wife, Lauren, Alice Fakier and husband, Jay. Great grandchildren are Haddie, Paisley, Ezekiel, Averitt, Caroline, Luke, Kate, Gus and Beth, and a very special 2nd cousin, John Callison and wife, Linda, and many nieces, nephews and friends that he dearly loved. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to all of you that touched our lives with your support, love, care, and kindness. Special thanks to Dr. Craig Miller and his staff, Overton Brooks VA Staff, Ark-La-Tex Home Health, Inner Quality Services (Felicia McKinney) and Regional Hospice of Northwest Louisiana and their staff. Honoring Jack as pallbearers will be Colton Giles, Tommy Giles, David Compton, Ray Presley, Bill Rodgers, Al Compton, Mark Newland. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to be made to the Shriners Children's Hospital, 318-222-5704; St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, P. O.
