James Pat Cox

James Pat Cox "JP", 85, was born on February 4, 1935 in Shreveport, Louisiana to Luther Calvin and Archie Belle Cox. He passed away Friday, January 15, 2021 due to complications from Alzheimer's in Shreveport, Louisiana. James graduated from C.E. Byrd High School in 1953 and then served in the United States Army. He was honorably discharged from Fort Bliss in El Paso, Texas and moved back to Shreveport, Louisiana where he served in the Army Reserves for four years. He worked at Southwestern Transportation for 30 years and eventually retired from Conway Southeast. In 1962, James married Sarah "Sally" Fouts, whom he had known from childhood while attending Cedar Grove Methodist Church. Later, he and Sally became members of First United Methodist Church. In December of 2020, they celebrated 58 years of marriage. James is preceded in death by his parents. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Sally Fouts Cox; son, James Calvin Cox and wife, Tracey of Fort Worth, Texas; daughters, Kelly Cox Hidalgo of Shreveport, Louisiana and Tracy Cox Chauvin and husband, Terry of Keatchie, Louisiana; grandchildren, who affectionately called him "JP", Kendall McMullen, Madison McMullen, Alexis Hidalgo, Kelsey Cox, Anniston Hidalgo and Gavin Cox; brother, Ronnie Cox and wife, Priscilla of Shreveport, Louisiana and numerous nieces and nephews. The family suggests memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave., Fl. 17, Chicago, IL 60601, The Eternal Flame Foundation at First United Methodist Church, 500 Common St, Shreveport, LA 71101 or to the Food Bank of Northwest Louisiana, 2307 Texas Ave, Shreveport, LA 71103. The family would like to express special thanks to Jamaal Stevens for his care and compassion shown to James and the family. A memorial service for James will be held on Saturday, May 1, 2021 at First United Methodist Church in Shreveport, Louisiana at 11:00 a.m., with a reception following the inurnment of James. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Officiating the service will be Reverend Derek Joyce.
