LJ Baronette

Faithful servant in the Lord, Lucien John Baronette, died peacefully in Shreveport on January 30, 2021 at the age of 93. LJ is survived by his son, Doug Baronette and wife, Karen, his daughter, Ronda Garrett and husband, Geoffrey, and daughters-in-law, Liz Baronette and Kristi Baronette, all of Shreveport. In addition, he is survived by four step-daughters, Linda Payne Spain (John), Marilyn Payne Davis (Paul), Helen Payne Palmer (Rusty), and Patti Payne. LJ was Papaw to grandchildren Shannon Wallace (Mark), Natalie Williamson (Scott), Darlene Middleton (Mike), Douglas Baronette (Kim), Whitney Scates (Clinton), Ashley McCutcheon (Ty), Stephen Baronette (Megan), Brian Baronette (Jackie), Douglas Smith (Sun-Hee), and Byron Smith and step-grandsons, Andrew Garrett, James Garrett, and Michael Garrett (Grace), and sixteen great-grandchildren. He was known as Uncle LJ by his many beloved nieces and nephews. LJ was preceded in death by his parents, Lucien John and Louisa Baronette; his first wife, Hazel Berry Baronette in 1990; his second wife, Frances Payne Baronette in 2015; his sons, Ronald Wayne Baronette in 2006 and Randall Ray Baronette in 2018; and his seven sisters. LJ was born September 1, 1927 in Welsh, Louisiana and spoke only French until first grade. While in the service, he pen-palled with his army buddy's kid sister and married her, Hazel Berry, in Many in 1947. They raised their family in Shreveport where LJ worked and retired from Sportran. A faithful member of Emmanuel Baptist Church for over 50 years, LJ served as a Deacon and drove himself three times a week to church up until age 91. After being widowed in 1990, he married fellow church member, Frances Payne, in 1995. LJ loved to profess his faith, attend family gatherings and reunions, visit his South Louisiana siblings, hunt and fish with his sons and grandchildren, cook the tastiest dirty rice and gumbo, and watch football and westerns with his family. LJ was a sweet, gentle man who read his Bible every day and implored his Savior at every meal. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be made to Emmanuel Baptist Church in Shreveport. The family would like to thank the staff at The Glen.
