Visitation will be at the Cathedral at 1:00 p.m. until service time. Masks and social distancing protocols will be followed. Burial will immediately follow at Forest Park Cemetery, St. Vincent. Mrs. Sartori passed away on Sunday, May 9, 2021. Born June 17, 1926 in Shreveport, Marie was the last survivor of seven children guided by devoted parents, Francis Joseph and Gertrude Jacobs Meleton. Marie remarked many times to family and friends about what a wonderful experience it was growing up with six siblings. They remained close throughout their lives.
She was married to Charles William (Bill) Sartori for 54 years until his death in 2015. She often commented that having married into the Sartori family brought even more family love and sharing in happiness.
Marie loved life. She was active in many civic and social organizations, making devoted friends along the way. A true people-person, Marie never passed up an opportunity to socialize with friends and family. Marie was a talented watercolorist and flower arranger. However, her foremost devotion was to her husband, children, and grandchildren.
Marie was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Gertrude Meleton; husband, Charles William (Bill) Sartori, Sr.; brothers, Frank, Jr. and wife, Josie Dean Bachelor Meleton, Raymond and wife, Virginia Cook Meleton, Pierce Meleton, and Clint Meleton; sisters, Beatrice and husband, Phillip Haglund, and Barbara and husband, Gene Kirchner; and brothers-in-law, Raymond Koch and Paul Sartori and wife, Jeane Howard Sartori.
She is survived by daughter, Danette Sartori Jurgens and husband, Roger, and their son, Eric Jurgens and wife, Gia; son, Charles William Sartori, Jr. and wife, Michelle; and granddaughters, Taylor Sartori and Julia Sartori; sisters-in-law, Mary Sartori Koch, Matilida (Tillie) Winston Meleton, and Ann Rosenblath Meleton; and many wonderful nieces and nephews. A loving mother, she was always supportive during her children’s challenges and triumphs. Marie embraced many of her children’s friends as her own specifically, Laura Valerius, Will Horne, Guy Linacre, Rob Coyle, and niece, Mary Kay Koch Townley.
Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Frank Koch, Ray Koch, Jr., Richard Koch, Ray Meleton, and David Sartori.
The family extends their appreciation to Gloria Turner and all of the amazing staff at Montclair Park and to the staff at St. Joseph Hospice-Carpenter House for their kindness and care of our beloved Marie and our family.
The family suggests donations may be made to St. Joseph Hospice Foundation, 17732 Highland Rd., Suite G, Box 241, Baton Rouge, LA 70810 or a charity of donor’s choice.
Ever the planner, in advance, Marie wrote about how she wanted to be remembered and concluded with the statement, “Do not weep for her. She lived a wonderful and full life.”
