Thomas Henry George of Shreveport, Louisiana passed away in his home Thursday, January 28, 2021 surrounded by his family, following a long illness. Mr. George was born on July 2, 1934, in Bastrop, Louisiana to Edward Piercy George and Anna Neva Overton George. He was the fifth of six children and was preceded in death by his parents and all of his siblings, Edward, William, Robert, Elizabeth and Carolyn, as well as two of his sons, Edward Phillips George and Timothy Thomas George. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Rosemarie Phillips George, daughters; Leslie George Mace and Elizabeth Rosanne George Bacon, sons, Daniel Evans George and wife, Kelly and Patrick William George and wife, Christi; grandchildren; Jarred Lewis, Alex Hawbaker and wife, Amber, Andrew Mace, Connor Bacon, Kyra Bacon, Lexi Barnes, and Nathan George; and great-grandchildren, Kadence, Corbin, Mason and Michael. Mr. George graduated from Bastrop High School and Northwestern State University with a degree in industrial arts and education. He served in the US Army and the Army Reserves before moving to Shreveport in 1959 to teach school at Linwood Jr. High, where he remained for 6 years. He married Rosemarie Estelle Phillips on January 23, 1959 in Shreveport, LA. In 1965, he left teaching to work at the new Western Electric plant in Shreveport, where he worked until his retirement in 1989. Mr. George's favorite pastime was working with wood. He spent three summers rebuilding his father's family home in Beebe, Arkansas, taking his young wife and two small children with him. He built a carport with storage room for daughter, Rosanne, and later a huge boat house and dock at her lake house on Lake Bistineau. He built a pier and gazebo for his nephew, Paul, a backyard deck for his daughter, Leslie, and patios for sons Daniel and Patrick. He renovated a family room for one neighbor and built a sunroom for another. He helped a close friend add on to his house and build an airplane hangar. Throughout his life, he generously shared his time and skill with anyone who needed him. He had a tireless work ethic and devotion to his family and friends. There will be no visitation. Graveside services will be held on Sunday, January 31, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at Spring Ridge Cemetery in Pleasant Hill, Louisiana off Hwy. 175. Pallbearers will be sons, Daniel George and Patrick George, nephew, Paul George, grandsons, Jarred Lewis, Alex Hawbaker and Connor Bacon, and son-in-law, George Bacon. Honorary pallbearers will be lifelong friends Bob Kendrick, Harold Porter and Maurice Johnson. The family of Mr. George would like to thank the lovely, helpful people at Davita Dialysis on Mt. Zion Rd. and Regional Hospice for their kind, considerate care of our husband and father.
