A Memorial Service for Wendell Phillip "Phil" Mullins, 79, will be held on Monday, April 5, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at Broadmoor Baptist Church, 4110 Youree Drive, Shreveport, Louisiana. A visitation will be held at the church prior to the service at 1:00 p.m. Officiating the service will be Dr. Larry Williams, Dr. David Petty, and Dr. Herb Armentrout. Phil was born on January 4, 1942 in Brookhaven, Mississippi to Clyde Webster Mullins and Vergie Christine Case Mullins and passed away on Monday, March 29, 2021 in Shreveport, Louisiana. Phil moved to Natchez, Mississippi at the age of two. He attended the University of Mississippi in Oxford, Mississippi and graduated with a BA degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1965. In college he was a member of the Delta Psi Fraternity acting as Phi Chapter President during his junior year of college. In 1963, he married Gynelle Garrett. They had two sons, Wendell Phillip Mullins, Jr. and William Patrick Mullins. He began working for Ashland Oil Co. in Ashland, Kentucky immediately after graduating. He worked for Ashland Oil from 1965-1975. He began his work as a Maintenance Engineer and later was promoted to the Maintenance Superintendent as the youngest Maintenance Superintendent ever. He moved to Buffalo, New York with Ashland Oil in 1973 and worked there until 1975. In 1975 he and his family moved to Shreveport where he worked as Maintenance Superintendent at the Pennzoil Refinery. He retired in 1997 and worked as a Consultant and Project Manager with Roddy Engineering and Jacob and Associates Engineering Firms. He continued as a Consulting Engineer and Project Manager until the time of his death. After moving to Shreveport, he and his family joined Summer Grove Baptist Church where he was a member until 2002. In 1993 he began hot air ballooning and in 1995, he received his commercial hot air balloon pilot's license and opened his business, Above and Beyond Hot Air Balloons, LLC. He continued with his company until 2012. In 2002, he married Sandra Chicola Rossby from Alexandria, Louisiana. They joined Broadmoor Baptist Church and became members of the Herbert Class. Phil was an avid sportsman enjoying being in the outdoors as much as possible. He hunted extensively in the U.S. and Canada. He enjoyed working with his guns and spent much time reloading and shooting, being a member of several local gun clubs. Phil is preceded in death by his father, Clyde Webster Mullins; mother, Vergie Case Mullins; and brother, Max Raymond Mullins. Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 19 years, Sandra Chicola Mullins; sons, Wendell Phillip Mullins Jr. and wife, Angela, and William Patrick Mullins and wife, Kristy. He is also survived by his four grandchildren, Erin Mullins, Walker Mullins, Madeline Mullins and Pearce Mullins. He had two stepchildren, Claes Rossby and Karin Rossby Uhlig, and their children, Ian Rossby, Joshua Uhlig, Jonathan Uhlig (deceased) and Benjamin Uhlig; and numerous nieces and nephews. Phil was a man of great integrity. He was honest, fair, trustworthy and wise. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
